AAHA microchip lookup and International Pet Registry

IPR is on the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) participating-registry list. AAHA's Universal Pet Microchip Lookup at petmicrochiplookup.org queries participating registries, including IPR. A search on this website does not send the chip to AAHA's website.

Steps

  1. 1

Scan or read the chip number

A vet clinic or shelter can scan the microchip. You can also use the number printed on the implant paperwork.

  2. 2

    Search AAHA or IPR

Enter the number at petmicrochiplookup.org, AAHA's Universal Pet Microchip Lookup, or on IPR's free Microchip Search page. AAHA's lookup queries IPR. IPR's search checks IPR and does not send the search to AAHA's website.

  3. 3

Use the partner lookup if you have a key

Registry partners call GET https://www.internationalpetregistry.com/api/aaha-lookup?chip={number} with an X-API-Key header, as documented on the registry partners page.

What the participating list means here

IPR is on AAHA's participating-registry list. A person looking up a chip can use AAHA's Universal Pet Microchip Lookup at petmicrochiplookup.org, which queries IPR. AAHA lists these microchip prefixes under IPR: 900111, 900113, 900115, and 900118. IPR's own free search checks IPR, CheckAChip (UK), PetAddress (Australia), and partner registries in the federated network. It does not send the search to AAHA's website.

Partner AAHA-format API

The registry partners page documents GET https://www.internationalpetregistry.com/api/aaha-lookup?chip={number}. Send the API key in the X-API-Key header. That page says responses are JSON, both GET and POST are supported, and the default limit is 1,000 lookups per hour. The key is issued after the partner application is approved.
