Register a pet microchip in the United States

Owners in the United States use the same IPR registration as owners anywhere else. International Pet Registry is a worldwide service. Create a free account, enter an ISO 11784/11785 microchip number, and pay the one-time owner fee. The pricing page shows that fee as $25 USD.

Steps

  1. 1

    Create a free account

Create a free International Pet Registry account and choose the pet owner role. The account itself is free.

  2. 2

Enter the chip and the pet

Choose Register a Pet. Enter the pet's details and the microchip number. Any ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip can be registered, including one that is already implanted.

  3. 3

    Pay the one-time fee

The pricing page shows the owner registration as $25 USD, one time, with no annual renewal. The same fee is shown as CA$34 or £19 if you switch currency on that page.

Local registration still matters

The pet owner guide says IPR is a supplementary international registry and does not replace a local registration. Keep the local registration as well.

Anyone can still search the chip for free on the Microchip Search page, with no account. IPR is on AAHA's participating-registry list, and AAHA's lookup queries IPR.
